I have been considering fostering a dog. Maybe as many as possible!

What have been your experiences? Photos would be great to see, too.

I am going to through this in just because I love it so much. The the expression on the new dog's face especially touches me.

Since I’m a foster failure, I’m not exactly the person to share my experiences. Although, they were great experiences since all my fosters became my family. .
Fostering is such a great thing for the shelter animals, because it gives the animal a chance to experience a home life, so much is learned of the animals behavior and the match for the adoption is much better. Being able to let go of the animal knowing the animal is going to a good home is what it is all about.
If you do foster since the animal is not at the shelter, it would be best to help try to find a home for the animal. Be careful not to overload yourself with all those sweet animals.

We were a foster family for ESRA (English Springer Rescue Assoc.) One day after getting our last foster I called my coordinator and said: "We're keeping this sweetie!". The biggest problem for us was having to give up the foster pups for adoption - we wanted to keep them all!

All I can say is that every "foster" that CS brought home ended up as part of the pack. Spuddy, Missy, Ringo, Littte Girl, Tigger, Sally, Owl, Shrimp . . . The hardest part of fostering/parenting was the period of time between when they entered the home and when they became a part of the home after gaining their trust. All of them had some issues with trust, both in us and in the other members of the pack. Somewhere between 6 weeks and 6 months generally before they started to emerge from the fear and started down the road to being happy once again. Well worth the investment, all of them brought more into our lives than we did into theirs.

I was wondering how my dog would react. He's been an only dog for 2-1/2 years and gets an abundant amount of attention.

Fostered off and on in the 90's and early 2000's for IMHS, Then fostering, evaluation and manners training for the chessie breed rescue.
Some of those were selected and placed for assistance work if suitable.

I always had a set time frame I was available to do so.
Usually no more than the 6 weeks it took for training them for obedience and house manners . With the training they placed quickly or the prospective owners were on waiting list for when the pup finished the training program .
Those trained, once adopted did not bounce back into the rescues. That way I could help more dogs over the time frame and have very happy adopters.

I also for a while tamed local feral kittens for IMHS in the 90's. Once tame I turned them in to be adopted out.
