I know. They make up these rules and then won't waiver no matter what. You certainly don't need an 8 ft high fence to keep a happy dog contained, especially a senior Golden.
Most happy dogs don't need a fence at all.

And some 70 yr olds are in a much better situation to take care of a dog than some 35 yr olds (especially the ones that leave the dog home alone for the vast majority of the day 5+ days a week).

The senior and disabled dogs are really hard to find homes for. Yet some places would rather euthanize the dog as unadoptable then let some one like me love, nurture and spoil the dog, giving it the best life possible for it's remain days. Breaks my heart and makes no sense.

I would love to see a dog rescue organization that caters to senior citizens and matches the right dog to the right person on a case by case basis. Perhaps Seniors for Seniors!

great idea! Also You might check Dumb Friends League, my ex husband got his nice purebred chocolate lab. for no cost at all. Dumb Friends has a one time deal for seniors to get a free dog. This was five years ago maybe they still have that. You just sign up for it and what sort of dog you are looking for. He was over 70.

He missed our old chocolate lab and lives by himself. I thought that was a really nice thing that DFL offered for seniors.

DFL has less restrictions indeed. I called them last summer and they said they had a Golden Retriever that appeared to be a pure bred! It was schedule to be transferred in a day or two to Golden Freedom Rescue and if I was interested I needed to come down that day. A friend went there for me (as she lives in Denver) to check it out. I was ready to drive down at a moments notice. But he was a yellow Lab. Totally different breed. (Glad my friend knew the difference!)

CooknThyme, I sent you a PM regarding Golden Retriever Rescue of the Rockies regarding Adopting Senior Goldens. I am a member of GRRR (I love the acronym. Have you ever heard a Golden Retriever growl? That is an oxymoron for sure.) for about 11 or 12 years. I adopted both my Goldens thru GRRR.

One thing I love about GRRR is, although they focus on Golden Retreivers, they will take in ANY dog that is relinquised to them; they do not care about the breed. Their primary concern is the care, love and welfare of the individual dog.
