This plant has been coming up in our yard for years, but my husband kept cutting it back. I made him stop this year as I wanted to see what it did. Well, it has the most beautiful deep maroon tiny flowers in a giant ball.
I need to go give it some water with it being so hot today (88 here), so it is a bit droopy

I actually used the Picture This app ( highly recommend) on the same plant the other day. It's called houndstongue, apparently aka "rats and mice". The app says its unpleasant fragrance wards off rats, but I think it's pretty.
