The 93-year-old woman who has been mother to me, though not of me, for the past nine years, is in the early stages of end of life. She never had children of her own, but she "adopted" me after my Mom died. Laura is a grand woman, whom I treasure with all my heart. I just don't want her to suffer in the end.

She says she is ready to go, so I take comfort in that. I just want it to be peaceful and surrounded by love.

I am keeping Laura and those that love her in my prayers.

Laura is blessed to have a loving friend like you, VH, to help her over.
It is indeed, tough to witness.
However, knowing she is at peace is a gift.

As she prepares for her "transition", having your love and companionship is a gift too.

I'll share some sage advice a dear friend gave me. When I asked him what I could do
as I watched a Dear One come to her final journey,
he said:
"Make sure you tell them everything you want them to know. Help them to tell
others what they want them to know too. Have them share stories that they hold close in their heart. Help them remember what has mattered most to them."


I'll keep Laura in my prayers, that she remains at peace & that she suffers not.

She'll take your love with her VH,
and you'll always have hers love in your heart.

Thank you all so much! I brought her home (to her house) from the hospital yesterday, and she was more alert than I have seen her for some time, but still frail and weak. She will have someone with her 24/7 from now on.

Again, thank you all. I wish you all could have known her before all this happened.

How kind of you!

Laura is still with us, but spent a few more days in ICU with low blood sodium. Is home again and prone to be getting tired of the whole mess. But, like I said before, I am not ready to let her go. Or maybe I need to get ready and tell her it's okay.

She is back in the hospital after a fall this morning. Somewhat confused again. Keeps asking my friend Virginia to go get Virginia.

Heavy sigh.

Maybe that's what she needs from you now.
