It has finally happened...or has it? Supposedly, the Base Chapel at Buckley AFB will celebrate its last Catholic Mass this Sunday. This is consistent with the national refusal for other military facilities to allow Priests and Deacons to celebrate Mass and other Sacramental Ceremonies on a military installation. This is an unprecedented event that has never happened before and is a cause for grave concern to anyone who values their freedom.
The White House Administration is blaming Congress for not funding the government. Yet, football games for service schools went on as scheduled yesterday, 80% of government employees, including 400,000 DoD employees were called back to work, prestigious government funded golf courses remain open in the DC area, government departments have hired security guards and barricades for all the national parks to defend themselves against 90 year old WWII veterans, and two gourmet chefs occupy the Presidential palace. It is likely that the Base Chapel at Buckley will not be funding future Catholic Celebrations even after the funding issue is resolved. This leaves the Military Archdiocese in a quandary as to how to accommodate the many Catholic servicemen and women across the country and in particular the Denver area. There is reason to believe the funding issue is an excuse to terminate the Catholic presence on military installations. My feeling is that Protestant services are not far behind if something is not done. So, please pray for rational thinking by our elected officials. Pray also for the government organizations to provide the funds and example the Judeo-Christian faiths promotes by developing good moral character and allowing our military personnel the ability to defend freedom, including religious freedom, by example. A note to your Senators, Congressmen and women, and the President would also be helpful, if you can. I have tried to email them and they are refusing to respond to their constituents...again, blaming it on the government shut down.
