Hello fellow pinecamer’s. As many of us live on well systems, I thought I would pose this question to you all to see if anyone has faced a similar problem (and, if so, how they were able to fix it). With this being my first home, and never having lived on a well system, I inevitably have a LOT to learn about a LOT of things. :scrambles:

This problem just started one day about 9-months ago. When my pressure tank reaches the 40psi “cut-in” level, and the well pump is energized, there are a series of very loud “banging” noises that occur when the pressure tank fills up and reaches the 60psi “cut-out”. Since I first noticed this last January, I have had several (6 and counting) Plumbers, and 2 Well Specialists, come out to look at it, yet none have been able to diagnose the problem, nor come up with a solution. There have been several failed experiments that have been not only fairly expensive, yet, in some cases, even quite unsightly to the home (i.e. ripping through sheets of drywall thinking it was a loose pipe behind the walls :( )

I’ve pretty much called everyone local that I’ve been able to find, so I was just curious if anyone else may have encountered (and hopefully resolved) this type of problem. Thanks to all for taking the time to read this, and I’m so happy and proud to be part of our mountain community!

We had that problem. It turned out to be bad check valves in the well. One had a rock lodged in it, the other just went bad. We had them replaced a week ago along with the pump as it was well beyond its service life. So far so good - the water hammer is taken care of!

And if you want someone to look at your PRV, etc, may I highly recommend STECAT, Steve Cochran with Lonewolf Services, (303) 670-4372. He and his nephew have always done right by me, and I have experienced many different people servicing our well system and boiler heat system. He's the best and always fair.

Thanks for your reply, cydl. Shortly after this banging started, I had a local Well/Drilling Company come over, and he thought the issue may be associated with a bad check valve (or pump) as well. Yet he mentioned that even by replacing those parts, he couldn’t guarantee that would fix my problem. I thought I would get second opinions (as expensive as it would be to replace check valves(s) and a pump) yet everyone else that’s come over either doesn’t know what’s causing it, or just has theories as well :(

I’ve tried numerous times lately to follow up with the Well/Drilling Company that initially came over, yet they have yet to return my calls (something I’ve learned happens quite frequently up here...especially in their busy seasons)

Castalot, thanks for recommending Steve and STECAT. I’ll give him a call and see if he way be able to help.

Thanks again!
