Serves: 4-5
Calories Per Serving: no clue
Preparation Time: 15-20 mins + cooking time
Difficulty: Easy
Print Friendly Version
Ingredients:
1 lb ground beef
12-15, maybe more, Trisquit crackers, half Original, half Deli-Rye, if desired.
1 medium onion, finely diced
chopped garlic to taste, about 1 tbsp.
1 egg
1 pkg. Sloppy Joe mix
any other herbs or spices you like - try cinnamon for an interesting flavor
Heinz 57 or your favorite steak sause or catsup.
Cooking Instructions:
Crush the trisquits in a bowl until they are crumbs. Mix together crackers, Sloppy Joe mix, egg, onion, garlic and ground beef. Mix all ingredients by hand, but try not to "mush" the meat too much.
Form into a loaf and place in ungreased pie plate or loaf pan. Spread steak sauce on top of loaf before placing in oven.
Bake at 375 for about an hour. Keep an eye on it - a glass pan lets you see if the meat at the bottom is done yet. Slice open in center to check.
Serving Suggestions:
Serve hot, save leftovers for sandwiches the next day, sliced, with catsup and cheddar cheese.
Additional Comments:
This is the closest I have been able to get to my mom's meat loaf, but she never used Sloppy Joe mix, not even for Sloppy Joes!
