For each pound of hamburger (70/30 mix of meat), add one egg, 1/2 cup toasted bread crumbs, salt & pepper and a dash each of garlic and onion powder. Mix thoroughly with your hands untill it's well blended and form patties that are about 1/2 inch thick. You make them as large or small as you like. In/on a seperate bowl or plate, spread toasted bread crumbs out and press each pattie into the crumbs as hard as you can so it picks up tons of them & completely covers them, and then some.
Place on a cookie sheet, (not touching each other) and bake at 350 untill the centers are no longer pink and the outsides are brown and crispy. Times vary with ovens and altitude.
She usually didn't make it with gravy, but when she did, she used the drippings from the cookie sheet, crumbs and all. She'd make a rue ( think that's what she called it) from flour and milk and dump it all in a sauce pan & cook till it got thick. Lots of pepper in the gravy too. |

| If you want the whole experience, just boil and drain thick egg noodles, add as much butter as you dare, and sprinkle parmeasan cheese & the rest of the bread crumbs and salt to taste. Don't forget the cowboy bread and one half-pint milk! Ha! Hope it's as good as you remember....... |
