So I get it that Rooney is impossible , as only open 1 day a week. May I suggest that you talk to your county commissioner, and get Rooney open. However, why can't you go visit Rooney on the 1 day they are open? Details as to your situation would be appreciated... And enviro issues are of concern.

If you can't get to Rooney Rd, dig yourself a pit, find a large steel pan of some sort, fill the pan with the fuel and burn the fuel. Make certain that your pit is free of roots, that there are no combustibles near the pit and that you have the appropriate fire extinguisher on hand. You should also notify your local fire department of your intentions to ensure that you obtain any required burn permits so you don't get fined for burning without a permit or perform the action during a time where open fires are prohibited.

Do NOT, under ANY circumstance, pour out the fuel into the ground. It not only is persistent in polluting the groundwater, it's a whale of a fine plus the cost of an environmental clean up.

According to the info below, you can take to summit county.
https://cdphe.colorado.gov/household-ha ... programs#P
https://www.summitcountyco.gov/230/Hous ... dous-Waste

But, it looks like, they closed at the end of Oct. and don't reopen until April.

No wonder unscrupulous people dump the waste product illegally.

I'd make a comment . . . but it'd port the thread right into The Study and I believe discretion is the better part of valor in this instance.

I burn the fuel and take the oil to O'Reily Auto Parts. The fun one is the coolant/anti-freeze. That's such a pain in the posterior to deal with I gave up and decided paying someone to change it out was less expensive than doing the job myself. One of my neighbors used to have an oil heater in their shop/garage, and I'm guessing that the Elementary School collected used oil to heat the garage that takes care of the bus fleet.

It would be of great benefit if our local garbage site had a tank to dispose of used coolant, but I don't blame them for not wanting to deal with all of the regulations and potential fines associated with such an operation either. One could check with one of the local auto repair shops, they might be willing to add your old fuel, used oil, and coolant to their collection tanks, but I'm sure they'd charge a fee to help cover their costs of dealing with the regulations surrounding the disposal of those fluids if they do.

I haven't tried it, but I have heard that boiling anti-freeze will reduce it to a solid that is easier to safely dispose of.
