We live off Chickadee Lane in Burland, about 2-3 months ago a very low frequency humming started. At first we thought it was coming from our heater or noise from our house, but after several maintenance folks checking it out the noise cannot be pinpointed from here. We shut off all of our power and heating unit and still the noise hums. We can even hear it outside and its worst in our upstairs area.

The only other possibility of the noise is from a neighbor house or shop......

Does anyone else in this area hear this?????

I lived right near Chickadee and 72 several years ago. I can remember hearing that noise back around 2004 or 2005. I never did figure out what it was. My guess was that it was coming from someone's shop or garage.

This is likely a long shot, but a possibility of vibration through metal pipes coming from the well pump (mine does that), or maybe power lines. I've heard power lines make that noise, but usually the larger utility lines.

Helicopters also make what seems to be a humming noise as they are approaching from a distance, but that noise changes quickly the closer they come.

Could it be the power line transformer? That's the thing that looks like a metal barrel at the top of power pole. The power lines that come into your house are connected to the power meter at the house end and a transformer on the power pole end.

If you name it "The Burland Hum," or "The Bailey Hum," maybe someone can make some money off it...how about "The 285 Hum" to make a connection with the San Luis Valley and Taos...

My tinnitus easily drowns out that hum.

keg, my audiologist daughter tells me there are now mechanical aids available that will very comfortably mask your tinnitus symptoms, by replacing the noise with something your brain will like better. Very annoying condition! but she claims lots of progress has been made through this method.

Does anybody remember the Day of the Alien Abductee?

BaileyLove, I think it's likely that the noise is being referred from a neighboring property (a sound at low frequency travels farther). Sorry you're experiencing it.

Sounds like, at least from her writing , that its more than one person hearing it.
I'll bank on Power transformer or construction maybe a well drill or other long running mechanical.

Yes, me and my partner who lives here can hear the noise. I have lived here for more than a year and a half, but the 'HUM' just started 3 months ago.
